About the IVDA

The Inter Varsity Dance Association was set up in 1962 with the aim:

“to promote Ballroom and Latin American dancing within universities, to organise an annual Inter Varsity Dance Competition, to extend participation of university dancers in competitive dancing both on the University Circuit and the Open Circuit, and to seek to raise the standard of dancing amongst students…”

Today the IVDA has a general membership of around 10,000 students with over 35 university dance clubs choosing to affiliate from all around the country. The highlight of the year for the IVDA and its members is the annual Inter Varsity Dance Competition (IVDC), a national competition which showcases the enthusiasm and talent that can be found amongst student dancers. The day culminates in a spectacular and lively team match.

However, the IVDA does a great deal more for its members than simply organising this unique event. It works to promote the formation of Ballroom and Latin American dancing clubs at universities and to assist their development by providing information, advice and financial assistance. The Association’s website universitydancesport.com is the central resource for all student dancers.
